Thundercats The Movie 2010: Voice Actors

Published on September 16, 2007 by   ·   31 Comments

The voices for the new CGI Thundercats movie are still to be confirmed but I’m hoping that they will stick to the original voices as far as is possible.  Sadly a couple of the original voice actors have now passed away, RIP Bob McFadden and Earl Hammond, you will never be forgotten.  Bob McFadden was outstanding as the voice of Snarf and Slythe and Earl Hammond played Mumm-Ra, Tug-mug and Amok magnificently.

I recently contacted Larry Kenney, the original voice of Lion-O and Jackalman, and he confirmed to me that he was keen to take on these roles again for Thundercats The Movie due to be released in 2010, however, he had not heard from Warner Brothers at that time.

I would love Lynne Lipton to be the voice of Cheetara again, she has such a sexy voice and this character just wouldn’t be the same without her.  She also played the voices of Wilykit, Luna and Queen Luna.

The other main Thundercats voice actors were Earle Hyman, Peter Newman, Doug Preis, Rob Paulsen, Victor Trujillo and Gerrianne Raphael.

Let’s hope Warner gives them all a call and keeps it real!

I would lik eto know if this movie will have real actors(like X-men) or Digital animated???

  2. clare says:

It’s going to be a CGI-animated movie like Shrek and Toy Story, not live-action like X-Men.

  3. Rob Mayou says:

The biggest thing for me is Mumm-Ra. Im sure somebody could do Mumm-Ra justice but Earl was absolutely outstanding. That laugh!!! If they can get Mumm-Ra right then it will be good if not then it will never be right. The auditioning for Mumm-Ra should be treated as even more key than that of Lion-O.

  4. Tim Earl says:

    RECAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RE-CAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Larry Kenney could easily reprise Mumm-Ra almost as good as the original VA. He voiced Mumm-Ra in one of the extra features of the DVD sets and it was almost the same as the original

  6. Jason Singer says:

CGI? Come on! We all saw what happened to TMNT!
Get a real cast. This is marketing ploy. All they are doing is interesting a younger group of Thundercats watchers. The only reason they will make their millions is due to the loyal fans of the original cartoon. The industry is banking on millions of parents who grew up watching the cartoons, taking their children to see this film. Their thinking probably went along the lines of “You’re right we could probably make millions off the exploitation of the generation gap.” If you’re gonna do it, do it right, use expensive costumes and make-up to make it look real! I beg you as a fan of the origanal Thundercats who probably will go see this movie regardless of my movie morals, please change the way this movie will be put out.

  7. Frankie says:

hehe they may have their voice cast already set. But…if not… I hope they have an audtion available because I would like to tryout for Mumm-ra or Snarf. my voice (almost) sounds identical to Earl’s.

  8. Feidias says:

I am a fan of thundercats as the most of you here, i grew up watching these cartoon.i hope that the team which is working to the movie give as something very good and no a movie for budget and only.(20 years later we want something that kick asses)
also i hope that they will keep the original soundtrack of the movie and remastered it,Bernard Hoffer to the gear plzzzzzzzzzzz…

  9. Madd Badd says:

This a marketing ploy to get the Parents to bring the kids to this new movie.

I have to say it works. Compare the old Thundercats look and storyline to what is out now. You have Ben 10, Avatar, Storm Hawks, and etc.

Going CGI is the best bet to get old fans and new ones.

Plus many of us older fans might not make the the trip to the theater. We would just wait for DVD.
Which has tanked several big budget movie.

If kids want to go see this it will make the old fans go to.

  10. Terry L Lyrrec says:

Can they use rotoscoping? At least?

  11. Samantha says:

I’m looking forward to the movie.
I also hope they will get the orignal cast members to do the voices, i know nt all of them will b able 2 as they have passed away.

  12. Samantha says:

I dont think they should re cast as it will ruine the film in my opinion because fans know what the characters sound lyk from the episodes of it.

  13. shawn says:

I would like to say that i am a fan but why can’t they do both cartoon and real? they make the cartoon first to get more younger fans and then the next couple of years make one with real people. this movie would make a blow out with real people x-men did fantastic four spiderman incredibale hulk spawn why not thundercats just making the movie in cartoon would be wrong wesly snipes as panthro perfect part for that man. sean connery as jaga good part for him. make one with real people every one would go see it.

  14. Ben says:

NO CGI!!! How many movies do they have to ruin before they stop the insanity?! Hardcore Thundercats fans would rather see Live Action, otherwise don’t bother making anything at all. A CGI Thundercats would be offensive.

  15. Kirk says:

A Thundercats CGI film? Don’t bother. I’ll wait until the motion picture comes out. Only a child would watch a cartoon. Give me a die-hard Thundercats fan, and I’ll show you someone who would be insulted over a CGI film. Thundercats have too many good characters to allow some dumbass the privledge of screwing it up with a CGI film. Find out who the director is so we can tie him to a stake and burn him. CGI…Pfff!

  16. JimBob says:

Casting is one thing, but more importantly they’ll have to be VERY careful with the script and plots – the old scripts we enjoyed as children would not satisfy today’s cinema audiences. Watch the cartoon again and see what you think as adults. Only a few of those Marvel/DC comics-adapted live action movies have got the script right, more have failed – and thus spoiled the only opportunity to bring our beloved characters to the big screen.

  17. cyclic739 says:

I’d prefer a CGI movie… you all think it may be a bad thing, but look at the final fantasy VII: advent children movie. If it’s anything like that then go for it. Most movies that are based on comics and games have failed in the past because of live actors. They tend to lose the true aspect of the original that made it great in the first place. and a little piece of info: the director of the new CGI movie helped out in the creation of the gears of war game, so if you know anything about the game then you may want to check out this movie when it’s released in the future.

  18. MisterGoodKat says:

cyclic739 may have a good point, but might I point out the horror of TMNT? That might make a difference in saying that CGI characters are the way to go.

    I’m excited, but hesitant.

  19. slayer666 says:

at the end of the day if its cgi’d then its cgi’d yeait would be good to have it real live action film but at the end of the days we cant really judge on the cgi film untill the trailer comes out, at the end of the day there taking there time with this film to make sure its done well give them a break untill u see the trailer

  20. Robert says:

who can I contact to discuss a plausible backstory?

  21. tom says:

    i think thundercats is great

i think if they do make a flim i personaly thik they should have bruce willis or samual l jackson to play panthro

  22. Nighthawk says:

I found an article online about the movie. I guess it might be live like x-men. Hugh Jackman as lion-o, Jessica Simpson as Cheetara, and Micheal Clark Duncan as Panthro with Seth Green doing voices like Snarf.

  23. Claire says:

Errr… You thought advent’s children was good? I thought it was complete and total tosh.. yes it was very pretty, but the plot sucked big time..

  24. Luke says:

Yeah with Advent Children you get as lost in the plot as you do in the visuals lol. You might as well watch it in Japanese because it will make just as much sense. I still like the movie though.

  25. scoff says:

hey guys I love thundercats too, and CGI or Live I am going to watch it…what annoys me are the fake trailers coming out on youtube with vin diesel, brad pitt and hugh jackman (killer cast if the movie were to be shot live though!) I am sceptical though and hope that when the CGI does go big they will consider making a live action version…

  26. Lacey Dusseault says:

i have come to the decision that a CGI Thundercats will be awesome or horrible. There isn’t really a mid-point. As part of the younger audience, I understand the appeal of a cartoon, but i would actually prefer a higher quality live-action film. Considering myself as a huge fan, I will still see the movie even if it sucks.

  27. Anne says:

what if they also create a movie of the Silver Hawks theyre also the 1′s who created thundercats it would be neat .. then make another movie .. the thunder cats VS the silver hawks hehe

  28. Teresa says:

I used to watch Thundercats with my sons. They will be starting over for a new generation and they should have new people for the voices. The originals were great for their time but I don’t believe that they could do it as well now. We all know that they will improve the way the characters look, so why not new voices. Try to get them as close to the originals as possible.

  29. Michael Lovero says:

C.G.I.?……Oh Brother! That’s gonna SUCK! I WANT LIVE ACTION!

  30. Michael Lovero says:

You might as well give us another cartoon!

  31. CHELO says:

I WOULD LIKE THE CHARACTERS TO BE REAL ACTORS. THE X-MEN MOVIES WERE GREAT AND I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT MOVIE IF IT WOULD BE DONE THIS WAY AS WELL. I BELIEVE COSTUMES SHOULD BE VERY SIMILAR TO THE OLD THUNDERCATS.
