I’ve had a lot of questions about this, so just to clarify…..the article that appeared on the Esquire magazine website on 11th June 2007 regarding Thundercats The Movie was in fact a hoax. The article that I refer to can be linked to below:
Esquire magazine - Thundercats The Movie article
If you look at the very bottom of the article is says ‘This story is a hoax. And sadly, its believability is due more to Hollywood’s utter lack of imagination than any cleverness on our part. Just let it go already.’
So Jon Favreau won’t be directing Thundercats The Movie 2010 and unfortunately for the male of the species, Jessica Simpson won’t be sporting a lycra catsuit to play the role of Cheetara!
I do applaud Esquire for this hilarious article though, some of the quotes in it are quality and it would have been side-splitting if Jon Favreau had actually said “I mean, the Sword of Omens? Lion-O holding it to his crotch and screaming progressively louder until it gets full extension — there’s not a better meat-spanking joke out there.”
In conclusion, Thundercats The Movie is going to be a CGI-animated feature, not a live action movie and I for one can’t wait for it to be released!

Nostgalia seems to be ruling the movie world of late, the most eagerly awaited movies are based on cartoons and toy lines of the 80’s. ‘Transformers’ is hitting the big screen this summer followed by ‘He-Man’ in 2009 and then of course ’Thundercats’ in 2010.
Dan Lin, Executive Producer of the ‘Thundercats’ movie, is also overseeing the ‘He-Man’ movie. When asked about this new trend of movies coming out of Hollywood Lin said:
“When I first got here, it was about the movie-star movies. Now it’s evolved into event movies. My job is to bring my bosses what I’m into. You certainly see a lot of younger guys who grew up with these comicbooks and TV shows pushing these projects forward.”
Lin has an important job, it’s his job not to crush our childhood memories of these cartoons. I for one long for these movies to be as close to the original cartoons as possible. Nothing will ever beat our memories of these cartoons but these movies could come close!

Thundercats is on its way to the big screen……at last! Warner Brothers are turning the 80’s animated series and toy line into a movie from a script written by Paul Sopocy, first-time screenwriter.
Spring Creek Pictures are set to produce the movie. Dan Lin, Senior Vice President of Production at Warner Brothers, will produce along with Paula Weinstein, Dick Robertson and Lew Korman.
Despite initial news stories, the movie is going to be a CGI-animated feature and not a live action movie. The movie is set to be released in 2010. I have been waiting years for this movie, I really do hope that it is worth the wait!
